On February 3, Amazon founder & CEO and world’s second-richest person Jeff Bezos announced to step down as chief executive officer (CEO) of Amazon. Bezos will now become the executive chairman of Amazon, a move that he explained will give him “time and energy” to focus on other ventures.
Bezos will be replaced by Andy Jassy, who is currently the head of Amazon’s cloud division Amazon Web Services known as AWS.
In a note to employees posted on Amazon’s website, Jeff Bezos said, “As Exec Chair I will stay engaged in important Amazon initiatives but also have the time and energy I need to focus on the Day 1 Fund, the Bezos Earth Fund, Blue Origin, The Washington Post, and my other passions”.
Then CEO of Google and Alphabet Sundar Pichai took his Twitter to handle to congratulate Jeff Bezos and Andy Jassy for their new roles. He wrote, “Congrats @JeffBezos, best wishes for Day 1 and Earth fund. Congrats @ajassy on your new role!”
