The next-generation digital infrastructure being developed in India was discussed during a meeting between Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Nokia CEO Pekka Lundmark. According to NDTV, PM Modi claimed in a tweet that his meeting with the CEO of Nokia was “fruitful” and focused on technology.

“A fruitful meeting with [email protected] in which we discussed aspects relating to technology and leveraging it for the welfare of society. We also discussed India’s strides in building next-generation digital infrastructure,” PM Modi tweeted.

The meeting with Prime Minister Modi to discuss how Nokia is aiding India with its 5G rollout, the next phase of its digital transformation, and its aspirations for 6G was an honour, Lundmark said on Twitter.

Nokia hopes to outperform competitors and seize the initiative in the Indian market for private 5G networks, which it forecasts would generate $240 million in revenue by 2027 and have a deployment potential of over 2,400 sites nationally.

The Nokia India Chief Marketing Officer, Amit Marwah, was quoted by the Mint as saying,“We have had a leadership position in private networks across the world and we have more than 500 deployments globally. This business is growing very fast and we see the same kind of trend in India too.”

In private wireless networks, India is anticipated to invest between $240 million and $250 million by 2027, according to a Nokia Mobile Broadband Index research released in February 2023.

Before finalizing its plan to assign 5G airwaves for 5G private networks to enterprises, the government must decide on the bands of the airwaves and the cost of the airwaves that will be delivered to them without going through an auction.
