MPL aims for global market, accumulates fund worth Rs 37 crores for game developers

Bengaluru-based Mobile Premier League has earned Rs 37 crore funds for Indian game developers and studios to develop games for their Indian and global audiences. Due to the pandemic and IPL season, the game witnessed a surge in traffic and investment. MPL has over 3.5 million users in Indonesia.

Gaming platforms are looking to expand into the US and East Asian Market due to the higher advertisement revenue in the free-to-play game. MPL is going to launch a single-window online console, where Indian game developers can apply and submit their games for screening.

For the period of November 2019 to October 2020, MPL has announced Rs 10 crores in revenue payout to 10 game developer partners. Some of the developer partners who will receive the payout are Hyderabad-based Yesgnome, Qunami, and BornMonkie.

Gamer developers will publish their games on MPL under a revenue-sharing agreement, which allows them to monetize their games through cash tournaments and contests.

Shubh Malhotra Co-founder, Mobile Premier League, in a statement said, “We are privileged to have partnered with talented game developers from all over the country and are glad that our platform helped them monetize their games. We at MPL recognize the tremendous potential that the Indian game developer ecosystem has and thus, have announced Rs. 37 crore funds.”

MPL was founded in 2018, and since then it became one of the leading mobile gaming and esports platform with over 60 million registered users. Paytm First Games and winZO are some of the other online gaming platforms where players can participate in live games and win cash prizes.

In September, MPL raised a series C funding of $90 million from SIG, RTP Global, and MDI Ventures. Although the company has witnessed huge traction on the platform post-COVID-19 outbreak, the recent edition of IPL turned out to be a big landmark event for them.

According to MPL, the number of fantasy players on MPL increased 7 times during IPL, in comparison to the previous IPL edition. Moreover, daily installation increased by 100 percent.
