Microsoft layoffs make headlines just days after Amazon begins its layoffs. Amazon recently announced the layoff of approximately 18,000 employees. Following the leak of information about the layoffs, CEO Andy Jassy made the announcement.

Microsoft had 2,21,000 full-time employees as of June 30, 2022. There are 1,22,000 employed in the United States and 99,000 employed internationally.

According to Bloomberg and Reuters, the engineering and human resources departments are expected to be the most affected. Microsoft has not provided an official figure for the number of job cuts.

Microsoft’s move also serves as a reminder that tech layoffs are not over. Following Meta’s brutal layoff of over 11,000 employees and Twitter’s layoffs in which half of the workforce was fired, tech layoffs are likely to continue in 2023.

Microsoft reportedly laid off around 1,000 employees across several divisions earlier in October 2022. These layoffs affected approximately 1% of Microsoft’s 2,00,000 workforce.
