Google offices to remain closed till September as the Coronavirus cases spike

As the number of Coronavirus cases are increasing exponentially around the globe, many companies are taking steps to reduce the footfall to their offices, and one of the biggest tech company in the world, Google has decided the same to do so.

Google on Tuesday said that the company was delaying the reopening of it’s US offices as the number of Coronavirus cases inclined in the US. In an interaction with Reuters, Google spokeswoman Katherines WIlliams said that the US offices of Google will now remain closed at least until September 7.

Earlier in May, Google had said that they will reopen buildings in more cities at roughly 10 percent of their capacity beginning July 6 and scale it up to 30 percent in September, if conditions permitted.

Earlier Bloomberg had reported that Google executive sent an internal memo to employees, in which various things were told by top-level of executives.

“For all of you that are working from home, please continue to do so unless you are told otherwise by your manager,” Chris Rackow, Google’s vice president of global security, said in the memo.

“We don’t expect this guidance to change until Monday, September 7 (Labor Day) at the earliest,” Rackow wrote, adding that the recent rise in coronavirus cases in the United States demonstrates that “COVID-19 is still very much alive”.

While the article was being published, total US COVID-19 cases rose by more than 2,727,996, according to a Worldometers, with 130,123 deaths reported.
