Shubh, a stage name for Canadian musician Shubneet Singh, has announced that his upcoming tour will no longer be sponsored by Boat, an Indian electronics company. Shubh has previously stated his support for Khalistan. In light of Canada’s accusations that India murdered Kalistani leader Hardeep Singh Nijjar in the Canadian province of British Columbia, the decision was made.
On September 23 through September 25, Shubh was supposed to perform in Mumbai on Cordelia Cruises. Boat announced the choice on Twitter (previously X). Shubh’s controversial acts earlier this year, in which he tweeted a warped map of India to show support for Khalistani militants, were cited by the brand as the main justification for cutting ties with the Canadian musician.
“At boAt, we are first and foremost a genuine Indian business, notwithstanding our tremendous dedication to the amazing music community. So when we learned of the comments made by musician Shubh earlier this year, we made the decision to stop supporting the tour,” Boat stated in a statement published on X.
Boat’s decision was also made in response to social media people criticising the business for supporting Shubh’s event despite his divisive opinions and mentioning co-founder Aman Gupta.
