The model is equipped with 671 billion parameters and can generate text, code, and perform related tasks. DeepSeek V3 utilizes a mixture of experts (MoE) architecture, optimizing multiple neural networks for different tasks, which helps reduce hardware costs by activating only the relevant network for a given prompt.

The model’s training was done in approximately 2788K H800 GPU hours, estimated at a cost of $5.57 million. This is significantly lower than the multi-million-dollar training costs of large tech companies in the U.S. According to a technical paper, DeepSeek V3 outperformed open-source models like Llama-3.1-405B and Qwen 2.5-72B in most benchmarks. Uğur Çakır, co-founder of SendGB, stated that the company has received numerous complaints from Indian users unable to access the service. “We have no information on why we have been blocked,” Çakır said. He added that attempts to contact Airtel and Jio through various channels have been unsuccessful.

The blockade has affected a significant portion of SendGB’s user base in India, where the platform has been popular since its launch in 2019. Many users in India reportedly rely on the service for global file transfer operations.

While the exact reason for the access restrictions remains unclear, some users have speculated it may be related to copyright concerns. Çakır addressed this possibility, stating, “Copyright content is one of our most sensitive issues. We promptly address DMCA complaints from India and other countries.”

The RBI started testing the eRupee in December 2022, but the number of transactions has dropped significantly after an initial spike. This reflects the broader challenges central banks face globally in getting people to use digital currencies.

Last year, transactions with the eRupee peaked at over a million a day, but they’ve now fallen to between 100,000 and 200,000 daily, a source told Reuters.

Originally, the RBI only allowed transactions with the eRupee through banks’ mobile apps. However, in April, the RBI decided to let payment companies join the pilot, provided they get approval.

These five payment companies are now working with the RBI and the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI) to add eRupee features to their apps. They plan to roll out this functionality over the next three to four months.

Bringing these popular payment apps into the eRupee pilot is seen as a way to increase adoption and reach more users. “Allowing these well-known payment firms to offer eRupee transactions should help boost usage by making it accessible to more people,” a source explained.

Together, these five companies handle more than 85% of digital payments in India through the Unified Payments Interface (UPI), which processes about 13 billion transactions a month.

Google parent Alphabet to deliver internet in remote areas in project “Taara”

Alphabet’s Taara project has so far helped to link up internet services in 13 countries including Australia, Kenya and Fiji.

According to company executives, The ‘Taara’ project is a part of Alphabet’s innovation lab called X, and was initiated in 2016 after attempts at using stratospheric balloons to deliver the internet ran into problems due to high costs.

Google parent Alphabet already tried and failed to bring internet access to rural and remote areas by using high-altitude balloons in the stratosphere. But now, the company is delivering internet service to remote areas with the usage of beams of light.

Taara executives and Bharti Airtel, one of India’s largest telecommunications and internet providers, told Reuters they are now moving toward larger-scale deployment of the new laser internet technology in India. Financial details were not disclosed.

Mahesh Krishnaswamy, who leads ‘Taara’ said that Taara is helping to link up internet services in 13 countries so far including Australia, Kenya and Fiji. He also added that it has struck deals with Econet Group and its subsidiary Liquid Telecom in Africa, internet provider Bluetown in India and Digicel in the Pacific Islands.

Taara’s machine is the size of traffic lights that beam the laser carrying the data – essentially fiber-optic internet without the cables. Partners like Airtel use the machines to build out communications infrastructure in hard-to-reach places.

Randeep Sekhon, Bharti Airtel’s chief technology officer said Taara will also help deliver faster internet service in urban areas in developed countries. He said it is less expensive to beam data between buildings than to bury fiber-optic cables.

Krishnaswamy was recently in Osur, an Indian village where he spent his childhood summers, three hours south of Chennai, for the installation of Taara equipment. He said that Osur will be receiving high-speed internet for the first time this summer.

In July 2020, Google committed $10 billion (roughly Rs. 82,046 crore) for digitizing India. It invested $700 million (roughly Rs. 5,742 crore) for a 1.28 percent stake in Bharti Airtel last year. X and Google are sister companies under Alphabet, while Taara’s partnership with Bharti Airtel is separate from the Google investment.

When asked about the downside of the internet as X and Taara push ahead with their mission to connect the rest of the world, Astro Teller, who leads X said, “I acknowledge the concept that the Internet is imperfect, but I would suggest that’s maybe the subject of a different moonshot to improve the internet’s content.”

The record amply demonstrates the inherent value of three-letter ‘.com’ domain names, particularly those, such as the domain name, based on dictionary terms”.

VGW.com: Earlier in 2023, the Australian Company Virtual Gaming Worlds (VGW.co) came up with a UDRP/domain dispute Complaint before WIPO (case no D2023-0345) alleging that the domain name owner is acting in bad faith as the resulting website offers the domain name for sale at an exorbitant price of USD 150 million. The Australian Company was incorporated in 2010 and registered its Trademark in 2016, whereas the Korean domain name registrant registered the domain name in the year 2002 and kept it parked for sale. The single-member Panel held “The price that the Respondent asks for the sale or lease of the disputed domain name may be viewed as excessive, but the offer to sell a disputed domain name without additional supporting factors showing an intent to take advantage of a trademark does not necessarily indicate bad faith.” In the above-cited UDRP matters, the Panel additionally held the UDRP proceedings were brought in bad faith by the respective trademark holders in an attempt to deprive a registered domain-name holder of the domain name and hence, a case for Reverse Domain Name Hijacking (RDNH).

CGI.in: Domain name dispute / INDRP (case no INDRP/1524) upon was brought before the .IN Registry / NIXI by Canadian Company CGI Inc. However, the Respondent had used the domain name in the past in relation to its dictionary meaning ‘Computer Generated Imagery’ and the resulting website was again activated during the proceedings. Accordingly, it was held: “The Respondent used the disputed domain name in connection with the relied-upon dictionary meaning and not to trade off third-party trademark rights… Indeed, CGI as other three-letter acronyms has various meanings and does not refer exclusively to the Complainant.” The Complainant in this matter was represented by M/s Anand and Anand (IP Law Firm), while the Respondent was represented by UDRP Lawyer Ankur Raheja of Cylaw Solutions.

UDRP Lawyer: The Burden of Proof and the Risk of Reverse Domain Name Hijacking (RDNH) in UDRP Complaints

The burden of proof is on the complainant to show that the domain name registrant does not have a legitimate interest and acted in bad faith. However, if it is proved under UDRP that the trademark holder came forward with a UDRP complaint without any proper grounds/evidence… it can be argued against the trademark holder as a matter of Reverse Domain Name Hijacking (RDNH). Many well-known Indian Companies have faced RDNH decisions under UDRP, for example, Machani.com, Ceate.com, TVS.com, Croma.com, Woodland.com, Zydus.com and more.”
