The National Investigation Agency (NIA) has filed a chargesheet against nine accused, including two Pakistan nationals, in connection with the grenade attack on the Sirsa Women Police Station in Haryana in November 2025.

According to the NIA, the chargesheeted accused include Pakistan-based handlers Shahzad Bhatti and Sohail Ahmad alias Sohail Baloch, along with arrested Indian nationals Dheeraj alias Dhiru, Vikas alias Vikky, Sandeep alias Daimar, Vikas, Sushil alias Sillu, Md Sijaan alias Sijaan alias Ghazi, and Gurjant Singh.

The incident took place on the night of November 25, 2025, when a low-intensity explosive device was hurled outside the Women Police Station in Sirsa. The blast caused panic in the area but did not result in any casualties or major structural damage.

A CCTV video of the attack later surfaced on social media, showing two motorcycle-borne youths allegedly throwing the explosive object near the police station gate. Investigators had initially probed possible Khalistani links and external coordination before the NIA formally took over the case as a terror-related investigation.

The agency’s probe later pointed toward cross-border involvement and alleged Pakistan-backed handlers coordinating local operatives through social media and other digital channels. Shahzad Bhatti, identified as one of the alleged masterminds, has previously been linked to gangster-terror modules accused of targeting police establishments in Punjab and Haryana.

The accused have been booked under various sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, the Explosives Act, and the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

Investigators are also examining wider links related to funding, logistics support, arms supply chains and potential connections with other attacks targeting security infrastructure in northern India.

Security has also been tightened around Dipke’s residence in Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, where police have been posted round the clock as a precautionary measure. Police said the deployment was made to avoid crowd gathering amid the online attention surrounding the issue, though no official threat had been received.

Dipke also said on May 24 that the group’s website had been shut down. When accessed, the site continues to display the message that it cannot be reached. According to his claim, the website had nearly 10 lakh registrations, including signatures on a petition seeking the resignation of Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.

Telangana Chief Minister A. Highlighting the scale of financial support already extended to SHGs, the Chief Minister said the state government had facilitated bank-linkage loans worth ₹60,472 crore for women’s groups. Addressing women participants at the event, Revanth Reddy urged self-help groups to move beyond small livelihood activities and explore larger business opportunities and industrial ventures.

Despite this demographic equation, BJP candidate Debangshu Panda secured a sweeping victory with more than 71 per cent vote share, marking the party’s first major breakthrough in the constituency. Why prices are rising even as crude falls

The timing appears contradictory. Brent crude fell over 5% on Monday on hopes of a US-Iran deal, yet fuel prices in India went up. The explanation lies in the accumulated losses India’s oil marketing companies have been absorbing since the Iran war began on February 28.

Indian Oil Corporation, BPCL, and HPCL collectively were estimated to be losing more than ₹1,000 crore every day by selling petrol and diesel below cost while buying crude at post-war elevated prices. The back-to-back hikes will offer partial relief to OMCs but not a full cushion, he said, adding that even if the Middle East situation stabilises it will take time for risks around the Strait of Hormuz to fully ease, keeping crude prices likely above $90 per barrel. Combined with a weakening rupee, OMC margins continue to face pressure and some further calibrated price revisions may still be required. The government will need to balance OMC financial health against the impact on consumers.

What this means for inflation

The diesel hike is the more consequential one for everyday households. Diesel powers India’s logistics network, freight transport, farm equipment, and last-mile delivery chains. A ₹2.71 per litre hike on diesel raises the operating cost of every truck, tractor, and delivery vehicle in the country. The price of milk, bread, vegetables, and packaged goods, which had already risen on previous hike-driven cost pass-throughs, faces another upward push.

Customs officials at Indira Gandhi International Airport have seized nearly 48 kilograms of suspected hydroponic weed valued at around Rs 48 crore from two Thailand nationals arriving from Bangkok, marking one of the biggest narcotics seizures at the airport in recent times.

According to customs authorities, the two passengers arrived in Delhi on Air India flight AI-2356 from Bangkok on May 22 and were intercepted after crossing the Customs Green Channel based on specific profiling inputs and suspicious travel indicators.

Officials said the passengers’ baggage was subjected to detailed examination after customs officers noticed irregularities during screening and behavioural assessment procedures.

During the inspection, officers recovered six vacuum-sealed packets suspected to contain hydroponic weed, commonly referred to as high-grade ganja. Four packets weighing approximately 29 kilograms were recovered from the baggage of one passenger, while two packets weighing nearly 19 kilograms were recovered from the second passenger.

The total quantity of the suspected narcotic substance seized in the operation was approximately 47.805 kilograms net weight.

Customs officials estimated the international market value of the recovered contraband at nearly Rs 48 crore. Authorities described the seizure as one of the highest-value drug recoveries at Delhi airport in recent years.

Hydroponic weed is considered a premium-grade cannabis product cultivated using controlled indoor techniques and advanced hydroponic systems. Due to its high potency and elevated black-market demand, such narcotics often command extremely high prices in international trafficking networks.

Officials familiar with the investigation said the narcotics were concealed in a sophisticated manner inside passenger baggage and packed in vacuum-sealed layers to evade detection during transit and screening procedures.

The interception was reportedly carried out through a combination of passenger profiling, intelligence-based surveillance and detailed baggage examination. Customs authorities said both passengers are being questioned and further investigation is underway to determine possible international trafficking links and the intended recipients of the narcotics consignment in India.

Investigators are also examining whether the seizure is connected to larger organised drug syndicates operating across Southeast Asia and South Asia. Bangkok has frequently emerged as a transit route in several international narcotics smuggling investigations handled by Indian enforcement agencies in recent years.

Under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act, possession and trafficking of commercial quantities of narcotic substances attract stringent penalties, including long-term imprisonment.

The latest seizure comes amid intensified anti-smuggling operations by customs and narcotics agencies at major Indian airports, particularly against synthetic drugs, hydroponic cannabis and high-value psychotropic substances entering through international routes.

Officials said forensic examination of the seized material is being conducted to confirm its exact composition and purity level.

Technical surveillance, including mobile tracking and communication analysis, reportedly helped investigators uncover the network involved in the theft.

During searches conducted at multiple locations, police recovered gold bars, silver biscuits and large amounts of cash believed to be linked to the stolen jewellery consignment. Authorities suspect part of the stolen gold had already been melted or converted to avoid detection.

RBI to transfer record Rs 2.87 lakh crore dividend to government for FY26; balance sheet expands 20.61%

The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) on Friday approved a record surplus transfer of Rs 2.87 lakh crore to the Government of India for FY26, surpassing the previous year’s payout of Rs 2.69 lakh crore.

The decision was approved by the RBI Central Board and comes as a major fiscal boost for the Centre amid rising crude oil prices, global economic uncertainty, and geopolitical tensions.

According to the RBI statement, the central bank’s balance sheet expanded 20.61% year-on-year to Rs 91.97 lakh crore as of March 31, 2026.

The sharp increase in surplus transfer was driven by stronger earnings from foreign exchange operations, gains arising from currency volatility, and higher returns on investments during the fiscal year.

The record dividend is expected to provide the government with additional fiscal space, helping manage fiscal deficit targets while reducing pressure for aggressive market borrowing. The transfer also comes at a time when elevated oil prices and global macroeconomic uncertainties continue to impact inflation and government expenditure calculations.

The FY26 payout now becomes the highest-ever surplus transfer by the central bank, exceeding the previous record of Rs 2.69 lakh crore transferred in FY25.

Separately, earlier in 2026, the RBI had also revised dividend distribution guidelines for commercial banks. Under the updated framework, banks can distribute a maximum of 75% of net profit as dividends. The regulator also eased adjusted profit calculations by allowing banks to deduct only 50% of net non-performing assets (NPAs), compared to the earlier proposed 100% deduction.

The revised dividend norms were seen as supportive for banking sector capital management and shareholder payouts.

From defence to shipping: India and Cyprus deepen strategic partnership during high-level talks

Cyprus President Nikos Christodoulides on Friday said relations between India and Cyprus are moving beyond strategic intent into a “concrete partnership,” as both countries expanded cooperation across defence, maritime affairs, technology, innovation and economic connectivity during high-level talks in New Delhi.

Speaking after bilateral engagements with Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Christodoulides said one of the major outcomes of the visit was the establishment of a joint task force focused on infrastructure, shipping and economic cooperation.

“What began as a strategic vision is now evolving into a concrete partnership, a partnership already producing tangible results across key areas, including security, defence, technology, innovation, maritime cooperation, education, and economic connectivity,” the Cypriot President said.

He added that the newly-created task force would accelerate collaboration in sectors considered vital for long-term bilateral growth and connectivity between India and Europe.

The visit comes less than a year after Prime Minister Modi’s landmark trip to Cyprus in June 2025 — the first by an Indian Prime Minister in over two decades which both sides had described as a turning point in bilateral relations.

Officials from both countries said discussions in New Delhi focused on trade expansion, maritime security, digital innovation, artificial intelligence, fintech, education, mobility, investment and regional connectivity initiatives. Several agreements and memoranda of understanding were also expected to be signed during the visit.

Cyprus has increasingly positioned itself as a strategic gateway for India into Europe, particularly as New Delhi pushes forward the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC), a proposed trade and connectivity route linking India with Europe through the Middle East.

Christodoulides, who arrived in India on a four-day state visit, was welcomed in New Delhi with ceremonial honours. His delegation includes senior ministers, officials and business leaders from Cyprus.

The Cypriot President earlier held meetings in Mumbai aimed at boosting investment and business cooperation before travelling to the Indian capital for political and strategic discussions.

India and Cyprus are set to mark 65 years of diplomatic relations next year, with both nations signalling plans to further strengthen cooperation in trade, connectivity, defence and multilateral engagement.

Fire breaks out in Allahabad High Court – Know More

A fire broke out inside courtroom no. 3 of the Allahabad High Court in the early hours of Friday morning. Authorities confirmed that no injuries were reported as the courtroom was vacant at the time of the incident. (Allahabad High Court)

According to initial reports, the blaze was likely triggered by a malfunction or short-circuit in the courtroom’s air conditioning unit. Firefighting teams reached the spot promptly and managed to bring the situation under control by around 9:00 AM.

The incident caused temporary concern within the court premises, though officials stated that major damage and casualties were avoided due to the early timing of the fire.
