A document circulating on social media that claims to approve a ₹5 lakh loan under the Pradhan Mantri Mudra Yojana (PM MY) in exchange for an upfront processing charge of ₹2,100 has been declared fake by the government’s fact-checking arm PIB Fact Check.

What the viral letter claims

Uses the PM Mudra Yojana logo and a forged Ministry of Finance heading.
States the recipient’s loan application has been “approved” for ₹5 lakh.
Demands an immediate payment of ₹2,100 as an “agreement charge” before disbursal.

Government clarification

The Ministry of Finance has not issued any such letter.
MUDRA is only a refinancing agency; it does not lend directly to individuals or micro-entrepreneurs.
Genuine Mudra loans are processed only through banks, NBFCs and micro-finance institutions, with no upfront fee for approval letters.

How to verify genuine Mudra loans

Apply only through recognised banks or authorised lending institutions.
Cross-check any communication on the official Mudra website (mudra.org.in) or through your bank branch.
Never transfer money to unknown accounts for “processing” or “agreement” fees.

What to do if you receive such a letter

Do not pay any amount requested in the letter.
Inform your local bank branch or the nearest police cyber-cell.

A video circulating on multiple pro-Pakistan social media accounts falsely claims that the Pakistan Airforce has carried out an attack on the Srinagar airbase. The Government of India’s official fact-checking arm, PIB Fact Check, has dismissed the video as fake and misleading.

In a statement posted online, PIB clarified that:

The video is not recent and not from India.
It originates from sectarian clashes that occurred in 2024 in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan.
There has been no such attack on the Srinagar airbase by the Pakistan Airforce.

The video, which has been marked with a large red “FAKE” stamp in PIB’s post, is being widely circulated with false claims across various platforms. The government has urged citizens to rely only on official sources for verified and authentic information, and avoid spreading unverified content.

The entirety of Rahul Gandhi’s September 4 speech at Delhi’s Ramlila Maidan was discovered to be posted on the Indian National Congress’s official YouTube channel.

Rahul Gandhi started comparing the costs of a few necessities with those in 2014 in the middle of his speech. Gandhi made a mistake while shouting out the unit price for flour while he was reciting the cost of various commodities, whose units were typically in litres.

In another case of WhatsApp forwards announcing news before media portals a viral message claims that the central Government is providing Rs 1.5 lakh to every Municipal Corporation per every COVID-19 patient, so the Corporation along with private doctors are increasing the COVID-19 cases

The claim is FALSE. No such official announcement from the government or news reports could be found. Earlier a similar message was being circulated in Marathi. When that message reached the Vasai town in Thane district in the Indian state of Maharashtra, the residents had refused to get tested.

Fact Check: Director Nishikant Kamat is critical and struggling for life; has not passed away

A wrong tweet by filmmaker Milap Zaveri on director Nishikant’s health made the news. The hoax created confusion and declared the director to have passed away. No sooner, he clarified on twitter to say that the director is, however, still in hospital and on a ventilator.

Milap Zaveri’s initial tweet which was pulled off soon read, “Heartbreaking news that Nishikant Kamat passed away. He judged My 1st play ever in Jaihind College where he awarded me best actor and writer. He was gonna direct “Sanak” written by @shiekhspear and me, starring @juniorbachchan Sadly the film didn’t happen. Will miss him.”

While in the post clarifying the wrong information, the filmmaker wrote, “Just spoke to someone who is with Nishikant in the hospital right now. He hasn’t passed away yet. Yes he is v critical and fighting life and death. But he is still alive.”

The confirmation of Nishikant’s life came through his close friends and associates on their official social media handles. They dismissed the fake news which stated that the director is no more. A fake account on the identity of Dr. Ramesh Pokhriyal, the Education Minister, tweeted stating that there is no sense of holding final year degree exams. This brought in many reactions from those who were keen to know updates from authorities on final year exams.

As Final Year Students have taken 7 semester exams and internals for 8th sem, it makes no sense to hold their degrees only for one exam.

It has been claimed that these images were beamed at the billboards of New York City’s iconic Times Square before the beginning of the ‘bhoomi puja’ at Ram Janmabhoomi.

However, several media agencies like Times of India and The Quint reported that these images were in fact fake. “The original image was flipped and and then digitally altered to make it look like Lord Ram adorned Times Square”, quoted the Times of India.

Both these media agencies have also found out the source of these images and the website through which such fake images can be digitally manufactured.

In the image above, the Quint has tried to create another doctored image using the same template as it has been used by the the ones who have posted the picture with Lord Ram.

These pictures of Lord Ram were claimed to be shown on Times Square billboards ahead of the ‘bhoomi pujan’ today at Ayodhya. Such misinformation, which is prone to become a Whatsapp or a Facebook forward, has largely been de-bunked by the media agencies across the nation.

Fact Check: Sushant Singh Rajput’s dog Fudge passing away is fake news

A few days after the sudden demise of actor Sushant Singh Rajput, one of his friends posted pictures of Sushant’s fur buddy, Fudge, claiming that he was heart-broken by the owner’s absence. Later, it was found out that the whole story was nothing, but fake news and all the pictures being shared on social media are just rumours. The claim that days later even the actor’s dog Fudge passed away, because he stopped eating after his owner’s death is not true.

A source close to the actor has pointed out the fake news and mentioned that not only Fudge but all four of Sushant’s dogs are doing well at his Panvel house.

While the netizens were staring at the viral picture on the social media, showing Fudge lying on the couch beside a picture of Sushant, captioned that Sushant’s pet dog has passed away.

Sushant had previously posted a lot of pictures and videos of his fur-buddy Fudge on his social media handles with his fans, which is one of the reasons people felt so vulnerable when the fake net started taking rounds on the internet.

Sushant Singh Rajput committed suicide on June 14 at his Mumbai residence. His funeral took place the next day on June 15 at Pawan Hans crematorium at Vile Parle in Mumbai, which was attended by his family, friends and few from the industry. His family also hosted a prayer meet in his honour at his ancestral home in Bihar.

A rumour claiming the government will implement nationwide lockdown from 15^th June and suspend flight and train operations has been circulating over the internet across all social media platform. Yesterday, the official media arm of the government Press Information Bureau (PIB) clarified that the rumour is false and it is fake news.

The rumour contains a maliciously edited image depicting ‘Breaking News’ from a TV channel. The image says “As indicated by Home Ministry there is a possibility of complete lockdown, train and flight operations will be suspended.”

PIBFact Check, the official twitter account for clarifying such false claims on the internet said that it was fake news. It urged the citizens to be cautious of such misleading images.

Popular Instagram handle with more than 144K followers on Instagram, FuckBJP has been removed from Instagram and Twitter. This page as the name suggests strongly condemned the actions of Indian Political Party, Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) with its posts.

3 days ago a Twitter handle, @alloutlefties handled by Ansh posted a thread where he talked about FuckBJP becoming a cyberbully and posted few screenshots supporting the same. He claims that FuckBJP had private information like contact numbers and photographs and threatened to “doxx” it(publishing private information on the internet). According to the thread, FuckBJP threatened Ansh and other Twitter handles- @SIKEnicki, @sedboihourz and @khaldrogo867.

Fact Check: Hampi earthquake news was fake, confirms Karnataka Monitoring Team

Yesterday, the National Center for Seismology claimed that an earthquake with 4.0 magnitude on the Richter Scale hit Karnataka’s Hampi at 6:55 am. Today, the Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC) confirmed that it was a false alarm by the software which analyses earthquakes with its parameters.

KSNDMC’s scientific officer Jagadeesh said, “No earthquake event was recorded in the KSNDMC Earthquake Monitoring Stations network. The nearest such observation is taken from Tungabhadra dam Seismic observatory, Hospet, Hospet taluk.”

“It’s not an incident, which means that there was no earthquake. It was a false alarm by the software,” Jagadeesh added.

India’s most wanted fugitive Dawood Ibrahim’s brother Anees Ibrahim denies the reports of his brother being Coronavirus positive irrespective of the Intelligence Agencies’ reports. He told this to a popular news agency IANS over a call from an undisclosed location.

Anees Ibrahim who runs D-company’s underworld operations said, “Bhai (Dawood) is fine and Shakeel is also fine. No one has tested positive for coronavirus. No one from our family is admitted to the hospital.”
News agency IANS claims the phone call to be authentic. However, the agency does not have any sources in the country to confirm or deny the news.

Dawood Ibrahim Kaskar is patronised by Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI), Pakistani spy agency. He has been residing in Karachi and is accused of several cross border crimes including the 1993 Mumbai blasts.

“Pls (please) inform to all the contacts on your list not to accept a video called the “Amit Shah disowns Modi” It is a virus that formats your mobile. It is very dangerous. They announced it on the radio today, Fwd (forward) this MSG (message) to as many as you can. High alert. Pls (please) block this no 9266600223. They are credit/debit card hackers. Pls (please) inform all your near and dear ones (sic),” reads the viral Whatsapp message.

The claims made in the message are false. If a dangerous virus was circulating through messages, the government would have announced on several platforms to warn the citizens. However, no such announcements have been made.

A similar false claim titled, ‘Sonia disowns Rahul’ was trending in 2017. Even at that time, the fact-checking agencies declared that the message was fake.

We request all our readers not to believe such messages and check for proofs before believing in hearsay.

Not Hindustani Bhau, the book “Contesting Nationalism” is written by this author

Hindustani Bhau is one of the most famous YouTubers of India who is known majorly for the slangs he uses in his video. He became famous after the dialogue of his went viral in which he had said, “Nikal la***, pehli fursat mein nikal.”

He was also a Bigg Boss participant via wild card entry. He has always maintained a goon-like figure and in his videos, he targets mostly those who are against him and the country.

His real name, however, is Vikas Phatak. When we search about him on Google, we are presented with his bio which is termed as an “author”.

Under his name, it’s written that he has authored a book titled, “Contesting Nationalism: Hinduism, Secularism and Untouchability in Colonial Punjab 1880-1930”

Many fan page too, claims that the Hindustani Bhau is an author of this book. Still, we were a bit sceptical, so we researched even more on the topic.

What we found was, he IS NOT the author of this book. The fans have confused himself with another person named Vikas Phatak, who had written this book in 2018.

Hindustani Bhau surely is a well-read guy, there is no denying it, but he has not authored this book. Vikas Phatak aka Hindustani Bhau is a news reporter at “Daksh Police Times”, a local newspaper in Mumbai. In 2011, he was awarded the “Best Chief Crime Reporter Mumbai” title.

Recently Hindustani Bhau was in news for filing a case on Ekta Kapoor. He had told spot boy, “I will not tolerate anyone who speaks or does anything wrong against my country, anti-national people like Shobha Kapoor and Ekta Kapoor are promoting sexual activities in public and corrupting the mind of youth and families. They have further stopped by targeting our Indian military, their uniform and defaming its national emblem. I have time and again taken every possible action against such criminal and ill-minded people; the concerned investigation officer has assured me of strict action against the culprits.”

TRAI rejects reports suggesting a shift from 10 to 11-digit mobile numbers

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, a statuary body set up to regulate telecommunications in India has denied the media reports suggesting that it has recommended a shift from 10 to 11-digits mobile numbers.
The regulator has released a statement clarifying the rumours regarding its recommendations on ‘Ensuring Adequate Numbering Resources for Fixed Line and Mobile Services’. It said, “It is a complete misinterpretation of the aforesaid recommendations. TRAI has not recommended the 11 digit numbering scheme for mobile services.”

“In fact, as per the TRAI commendation, the country will continue to follow a 10-digit numbering for mobile services. We have categorically rejected shifting to an 11-digit mobile numbering plan,” it added.

Although, TRAI did recommend adding 0 to mobile numbers while calling from fixed lines. It said, “The introduction of a dialling preface for a particular type of call is not akin to increasing the number of digits in the telephone number. This change in the dialling pattern will generate 2544 million additional numbering resources for mobile services to cater to future requirements.”

“This dialling prefix is also mandatory when calls are made from a mobile number to any fixed line number. Therefore, the current recommendation suggests a minor addition in the dialling pattern,” it added.
