SBI Card appoints Rama Mohan as new MD & CEO

SBI Cards and Payment Services (SBI Card) today announced the appointment of Rama Mohan Rao Amara as the new MD (Managing Director) & CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of the company who will be replacing Ashwini Kumar Tewari at this post.

This decision has been put into effect on January 30, 2021 and Amara’s appointment will be valid for a period of two years while being subject to all the required approvals.

Amara started working with SBI as a probationary officer in 1991. His expertise lies in the areas of credit, risk, and International Banking. Amara has worked with SBI since decades having an exemplary career at SBI for 29 years.

Before his appointment at SBI Card, he was the working as the Chief General Manager of SBI Bhopal Circle, where he managed the bank’s operations covering Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh.

Talking about the Indian economy’s current status and its prospects related to the company’s operation he said, “The Indian economy is slowly but surely coming out of the grip of the pandemic. With a renewed focus towards cashless and digital payments, the country is firmly on the path to becoming a digital economy. Moreover, the Indian credit card market continues to present significant growth potential due to its favorable demographic changes and extremely low credit card penetration rate.”
