Ola CEO Bhavish Aggarwal has tweeted that from 16th September, Ola is going to restart it’s bike segment in Bangalore. This time, the fleet will consist of all electric vehicles and Ola’s own S1 models.
The tweet by Bhavish Aggarwal read:
“Restarting Ola Bike in Blr today 🙂
This time, all electric and our own S1 scooters!
₹25 for 5km, ₹50 for 10km.
Lowest cost, very comfortable and great for the environment! Will scale across India over next few months.”
Earlier, Ola had to stop its bike segment in Bangalore. The state government had imposed a ban on it. The decision was made as a result of Ola’s inability to satisfactorily address the transport department’s investigation into its bike taxis in Bengaluru. Earlier this year, the agency had seized a number of bikes. However, Ola asserted that the “experiment” with bike taxis had been stopped weeks before.
Due to Ola’s failure to comply with the licence restrictions despite earlier notices from the department to the company, the transport department of Karnataka has banned the ride-hailing services for six months in Bengaluru. For its part, Ola asserts that it stopped operating its bike taxi service weeks ago and sought the government for a regulatory framework instead. Approximately two months after launching its bike taxi service in Bengaluru in March 2016, Ola’s arch-rival Uber suspended it.
