Wipro bags $500 million contract from leading US communication service provider

Information Technology (IT) services major Wipro Ltd on June 6 said it has been awarded a $500 million deal by a leading US communication service provider over a period of five years.

“Wipro shall provide managed services for some products and industry specific solutions,” stated the IT firm in a stock exchange filing.

This deal has assumed significance as it is the first major deal that has been bagged under the new chief executive officer Srinivas Pillia. The 32- year-old Wipro veteran assumed the office on April 6, post his predecessor Thierry Delaporte stepped down.

Earlier, in April, the Bengaluru based company stated that it has signed a multimillion dollar deal with Nokia, a telecommunications major, however the amount has been kept under the wraps. It has been learnt that the deal involved overhauling Nokia’s employee service desk and provide seamless, real-time IT support to a global network of employees.
