Triveni Engineering signs MoU with Rolls-Royce for 4MW marine gas turbine generators

Triveni Engineering has recently informed exchanges that the company entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Rolls-Royce Marine North America Inc to explore collaboration opportunities for 4MW marine gas turbine generators (GTG) in India. This partnership will focus on design, development, manufacturing, and providing comprehensive sales and support services for the marine GTGs.

With over 80 years of experience in naval markets, Rolls-Royce is a leading provider of power and propulsion solutions, having pioneered the marine gas turbine generator sector since the launch of the Allison 501-K17 in 1972. The company has delivered over 350 gas turbine generators to navies worldwide, including those of the U.S. Navy, British Royal Navy, Japanese Maritime Self-Defence Force, and the Republic of Korea Navy.

Notably, Rolls-Royce has contributed significantly to the U.S. Navy’s DDG-51-class, providing more than 200 AG9140 generator sets. The latest AG9160 generator set delivers 4MW of electrical power, representing a 33% improvement over its predecessor.

In India, Rolls-Royce has strengthened its position in aerospace and defense, with its mtu engines powering several Indian Navy and Coast Guard vessels. Triveni, a key player in India’s high-speed gears market, brings proven capabilities in energy-efficient, high-power products, making it a preferred supplier for the Indian Navy and Coast Guard.

This collaboration aims to leverage Rolls-Royce’s global expertise and Triveni’s local manufacturing strengths to meet India’s growing demand for advanced defense technologies. Together, they are well-positioned to support the Indian Navy’s indigenization efforts while expanding their global footprint.
