In a significant escalation of the corporate response to one of the most serious workplace misconduct scandals to hit India’s IT sector, Tata Sons Chairman said on Monday that TCS COO will personally lead the investigation into the sexual harassment allegations at the company’s Nashik office.

The chairman added that action has already been initiated against the accused, and that appropriate and stringent action will be taken against those found guilty. The statement marks the highest-level corporate acknowledgement of the case so far and signals that the Tata Group is treating this with the gravity it demands.

The Nashik case has been unfolding over the past several weeks with shocking details emerging with each passing day. The controversy began when a woman accused a colleague of maintaining a physical relationship with her on the false promise of marriage.

During the course of the investigation, police uncovered additional complaints, leading to eight more FIRs. The complaints cover a period spanning from 2022 to 2026, raising serious questions about why the alleged misconduct continued for such an extended period.

Multiple women employees, along with at least one male colleague, filed complaints with Nashik City Police alleging a pattern of sexual harassment, exploitation and attempts at forced religious conversion targeting staff.

The Nashik City Police have registered nine FIRs, arrested seven accused officials and formed a Special Investigation Team to investigate the claims. Preliminary investigations revealed that the accused targeted young women employees aged between 18 and 25, deliberately identifying those facing financial difficulties during job interviews by collecting details about their family background and household income.

When a complainant reported sexual harassment to HR, she was reportedly advised to stay calm, as some gestures were described as common in multinational companies, according to police reports. The HR manager herself has since been arrested in connection with the case.

The victims allege inappropriate touching, offensive remarks, body shaming, coercion to eat non-vegetarian food, and stalking. The incidents reportedly occurred between February 2022 and March 2026. Police also claimed that the HR official abetted the harassment despite repeated complaints.

Protests were held at the TCS Nashik office, with activists storming inside and demanding swift justice. Maharashtra Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis praised the police for their quick action and called for stringent punishment for those found guilty.
