Sterlite Technologies Limited (STL) [NSE: STLTECH], a leader in optical and digital solutions, has won the Jammu & Kashmir segment of the BharatNet III project in partnership with Dilip Buildcon Limited. This ₹2,600 crore contract includes ₹1,625 crore allocated for capital expenditure and ₹975 crore for operations and maintenance. The project aligns with STL’s mission to drive nation-building by connecting remote regions through advanced broadband networks.
STL is employing an automation-led fibre deployment approach for this project, utilizing drone surveys, GIS mapping, and AI-based network design to achieve ~26% faster fibre deployment with nearly four times fewer fibre cuts compared to traditional methods. This innovative deployment strategy is tailored to expedite BharatNet’s rollout in challenging areas, ensuring high-quality connectivity for the people of Jammu & Kashmir.
STL’s experience in executing complex network projects in Jammu & Kashmir is well-established, including its work on the Network for Spectrum (NFS) project, where it created an intrusion-proof network of over 10,000 kilometers for the Indian Armed Forces. With this new project, STL aims to extend broadband connectivity to villages, fostering advancements in education, healthcare, and economic development.
Praveen Cherian, CEO of STL’s Global Services Business, expressed pride in this accomplishment, stating, “We’re truly proud to be part of a project that’s not just about laying fibre but about transforming lives. Our Fibre Automation Solution enables a 3X faster deployment by infusing automation in the deployment process. Faster deployment, and higher-quality networks—that’s the STL edge. That’s what we’re bringing to BharatNet in Jammu & Kashmir.”
