Rajesh Power Projects Private Limited, a wholly owned subsidiary of Rajesh Power Services Limited (RPSL), has signed a Battery Energy Storage Purchase Agreement (BESPA) with Gujarat Urja Vikas Nigam Limited (GUVNL) to develop a 65 MW / 130 MWh standalone Battery Energy Storage System (BESS) project at Virpore, Gujarat.

The agreement establishes a long-term framework for the development and operation of the battery storage facility and marks Rajesh Power’s entry into the utility-scale battery energy storage segment, a rapidly expanding area within India’s renewable energy ecosystem.

Under the BESPA, the project will operate under a 12-year agreement from the date of commissioning at a contracted tariff of ₹1.89 lakh per MW per month. The project will deploy a 65 MW battery system with a storage capacity of 130 MWh, enabling it to supply electricity for up to two hours during peak demand periods.

The company expects the project to be commissioned within 18 months from the signing of the agreement.

The project was earlier awarded to Rajesh Power under tariff-based competitive bidding as part of GUVNL’s “Request for Selection for setting up of Standalone BESS – Phase VII.” The initiative is supported through Viability Gap Funding (VGF) from the Power System Development Fund (PSDF), aimed at accelerating deployment of grid-scale energy storage infrastructure in India.

Standalone battery energy storage systems are increasingly being adopted by utilities to support the integration of renewable energy into the grid. These systems store electricity during periods of surplus generation and supply it during peak demand, helping manage renewable intermittency, improve grid flexibility, and strengthen overall power system stability.
