PCBL Chemical Ltd has taken a significant step toward strengthening India’s conductive materials industry by signing a technology transfer agreement with Ningxia Jinhua Chemical Co. of China. This partnership will enable PCBL to produce Acetylene Black, a high-performance conductive material with applications in lithium-ion batteries, EV charging, semiconductor packaging, high-voltage cables, and conductive plastics.
With the rising demand for advanced battery materials, PCBL is setting up India’s first Acetylene Black plant to support the rapidly growing battery industry while also catering to global markets. This move aligns with the company’s commitment to building resilient supply chains for critical conductive materials.
PCBL has been steadily expanding its specialty product portfolio, launching over 50 grades under brands like Bleumina for engineered plastics, Nutone for inks, paints, and coatings, and Energia for conductive applications. The addition of Acetylene Black will significantly enhance PCBL’s offerings in the high-growth conductive materials segment.
The company has also recently established a joint venture, Nanovace Technologies Ltd, to develop nanosilicon products for lithium-ion battery anodes. A pilot plant at PCBL’s Palej site is expected to be operational soon.
This strategic expansion aligns with global macro trends such as energy transition, electric vehicle adoption, grid renewal, and semiconductor industry growth. The Acetylene Black market, currently estimated at 60,000 MT, is projected to grow at a 19-20% CAGR, reaching approximately 150,000 MT by 2030.
