IndiGo, India’s leading airline, announced today that it has signed a firm agreement with Norse Atlantic Airways for the damp lease of one Boeing 787-9 Dreamliner aircraft. The aircraft is expected to arrive in India within the next few weeks and commence operations in March 2025.
The initial lease agreement is for six months, extendable up to 18 months, subject to regulatory approvals. IndiGo and Norse Atlantic Airways also plan to explore further opportunities to contract additional aircraft and expand their collaboration.
Expanding International Reach
This agreement is part of IndiGo’s broader strategy to expand its international network and cater to the growing demand for international travel. To further support its long-haul expansion, the airline has placed a firm order for 30 Airbus 350-900 wide-body aircraft, with an option for an additional 70, scheduled for delivery starting in 2027.
Pieter Elbers, CEO of IndiGo, commented, “Our vision is to transform into a global player by 2030 while maintaining strong roots in India. This damp lease of the Boeing 787-9 is a key milestone in that strategic direction.”
