Hindustan Zinc Limited (HZL), a Vedanta Group company, reported record-high production numbers for the second quarter and half-year ended September 30, 2024. The company recorded its highest-ever second-quarter mined and refined metal production, driven by increased ore production at the Zawar Mine and enhanced plant availability.
Key Highlights (Q2 FY25):
- Mined metal production rose by 2% year-on-year (YoY) to 256,000 tonnes, although it decreased by 2% sequentially due to lower overall mined metal grades.
- Refined metal production increased by 8% YoY, with refined zinc production up 7% YoY to 198,000 tonnes and refined lead production up 12% YoY to 63,000 tonnes.
- Silver production rose by 2% YoY to 5.9 million ounces, with a 10% sequential increase due to the enhanced performance of the pyro plant on lead mode.
Half-Year Performance (H1 FY25):
- Mined metal production reached a record 519,000 tonnes, up 2% YoY.
- Refined metal production totaled 524,000 tonnes, representing a 5% YoY growth.
- Silver production was slightly lower at 11.3 million ounces, down 3% YoY, mainly due to lower silver input from the SK Mine.
Wind Power:
- Wind power generation for Q2 FY25 stood at 129 million units, up 19% sequentially but down 18% YoY, reflecting seasonal wind variations.
Hindustan Zinc continues to lead in the metals and mining sector, contributing significantly to India’s primary zinc market with a 75% market share.
