GAIL (India) Limited announced that its Mumbai-Nagpur-Jharsuguda Pipeline (MNJPL) project is in the final stages of execution and is expected to be fully commissioned by December 31, 2025. The 1,707-km natural gas pipeline is a high-impact project under the PM GatiShakti National Master Plan and will traverse Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Odisha.
The project aims to ensure clean fuel availability for city gas distribution (CGD) and industrial sectors across four states. According to the company, the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB) has identified 17 geographical areas covering 60 districts that will benefit from this network.
Construction work has already been completed in Chhattisgarh, Odisha, and Madhya Pradesh, while in Maharashtra, only 11 km of the pipeline remains unfinished. Out of the total stretch, 1,440 km is ready for gas-in operations.
The board of directors approved the commissioning timeline during a meeting on September 24, 2025. Once operational, the MNJPL pipeline is expected to significantly strengthen India’s national gas grid and improve access to cleaner energy across the identified regions.
