Cochin Shipyard Limited (CSL) has landed a major international win, signing shipbuilding contracts with Denmark-based Svitzer for a new series of advanced, fully electric TRAnsverse tugs. The deal, finalised on December 5, 2025, follows the earlier Letter of Intent issued on October 31. With this agreement now in place, CSL will construct four next-generation 26-metre “TRAnsverse 2600E” electric tugs, each designed for a 70-tonne bollard pull. Svitzer has also kept the option open for up to four additional vessels, signalling the possibility of an expanded partnership in the future.

The collaboration brings together Svitzer’s global leadership in sustainable towage technology and CSL’s strong shipbuilding expertise. These vessels are being built to Svitzer’s specifications and will support the company’s global fleet renewal strategy, as it pushes towards cleaner, more efficient maritime operations. Delivery of the first tug is expected to begin from late 2027, marking another important milestone in India’s emerging position in the global green-maritime ecosystem.

CSL has classified this as a Significant order based on its internal order-value parameters, which range from Rs 250 crore to Rs 500 crore for this category. The project aligns perfectly with national priorities such as Maritime India Vision 2030, Maritime Amrit Kaal Vision 2047 and the broader Make in India initiative, all of which seek to turn India into a global hub for maritime manufacturing and high-skill shipbuilding.

The company also clarified that none of its promoters or promoter group entities have any financial interest in the client awarding the order, and the transaction does not fall under the related-party category.
