Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) and Hitachi Energy have secured a significant Letter of Intent (LOI) from Rajasthan Part I Power Transmission Limited, a special purpose vehicle (SPV) under Adani Energy Solutions Limited. This project involves the design and execution of a high-voltage direct current (HVDC) transmission link to enhance renewable energy integration in India.
The contract, awarded to a consortium of BHEL and Hitachi Energy India Limited (HEIL), focuses on establishing two HVDC line-commutated converter (LCC) terminal stations with a total capacity of 6000 MW. These stations, located at Bhadla (Rajasthan) and Fatehpur (Uttar Pradesh), will operate at +800 kV, ensuring efficient transmission of renewable energy from Bhadla III to Fatehpur. The project also includes the development of associated AC substations, further strengthening India’s power infrastructure.
This domestic contract is expected to be executed by 2030 and represents a major step toward India’s clean energy transition.
In the meantime, on February 8, Bharat Heavy Electricals won a massive ₹8,000 crore contract from Maharashtra State Power Generation Company Limited (Mahagenco) for the development of two 660 MW units (Units 11 & 12) at the Koradi Thermal Power Station in Nagpur, Maharashtra. The project involves the supply, erection, and commissioning of the Boiler-Turbine-Generator (BTG) package, along with civil works and performance guarantee testing.
