Bharat Heavy Electricals Limited (BHEL) has received a Letter of Intent (LOI) from Gujarat State Electricity Corporation Limited (GSECL) for an Engineering, Procurement, and Construction (EPC) package at the Ukai Thermal Power Station in Gujarat.
The contract, valued at approximately ₹7,500 crore (excluding taxes and duties), involves the development of a new 800 MW unit (Unit-7) at the Ukai Extension Project in Tapi district.
This significant project includes the supply of critical equipment such as the boiler, turbine, generator, and associated auxiliaries. Additionally, it covers electrical, control and instrumentation (C&I) systems, balance of plant packages, and civil, erection, and commissioning works. The contract was awarded through international competitive bidding, highlighting BHEL’s competitive edge in the global power sector.
With an execution timeline of 54 months for commercial operation, the project aligns with India’s growing demand for reliable power infrastructure. Notably, the awarding entity, GSECL, has no direct links to BHEL’s promoters or group companies, ensuring transparency in the contract allocation.
This latest order reinforces BHEL’s position as a leader in power plant development and its commitment to driving India’s energy self-sufficiency.
