Amul Milk Price: Amul hikes milk prices by Rs 2 per litre as costs rise

The Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF), marketer of milk and milk products under the brand name of Amul, has hiked the prices of fresh pouch milk by approx. Rs. 2 per liter, effective from 3rd June 2024 in all markets across the country.

Amul had previously hiked prices by Rs. 2 in October 2022 across the country except Gujarat. It hiked prices only in Gujarat in April 2023

The latest increase of Rs. 2 per liter can be translated to hike of 3-4% increase in MRP, which is much lower than the average food inflation. It is worthwhile to note that since February 2023, Amul has made no increase in prices of Fresh Pouch milk in major cities.

It has been learnt that the members of the union have also increased the farmer’s price by approx 6-8% over the last one year. The decision of increasing the prices comes due to increase in overall cost of operation and production of milk.

Amul as a policy passes on almost 80 paise of every rupee paid by consumers for milk and milk products to the producers. The revision of price shall help in sustaining remunerative milk prices to our milk producers and to encourage them for higher milk production.
