Bharti Airtel has become India’s first network to tackle spam calls and messages with an AI-driven solution, flagging a remarkable 8 billion spam calls and 0.8 billion spam SMS within just two and a half months. Leveraging cutting-edge AI algorithms, Airtel has been able to identify nearly 1 million spammers daily, significantly reducing the intrusion of unwanted communications.
The AI system has alerted over 252 million customers, leading to a 12% drop in the number of spam calls answered. Around 6% of all calls and 2% of SMS messages on the Airtel network have been identified as spam. Notably, 35% of spammers use landline phones to target customers, with the highest volume of spam calls originating from Delhi, followed by Mumbai and Karnataka.
The solution also highlights gender and age-specific trends. A staggering 76% of spam calls target male customers, while the age group 36-60 receives nearly half of all spam calls, followed by the 26-35 age group. Senior citizens receive just 8% of spam calls.
Spam activity peaks between noon and 3 pm, with a 40% reduction in spam calls on Sundays. Additionally, smartphones priced between 15,000 to 20,000 rupees account for 22% of all spam calls.
Airtel’s AI-powered initiative is setting a new benchmark for network security and customer privacy. With real-time accuracy, Airtel offers a comprehensive solution to combat spam, safeguarding millions of users from unwanted interruptions.
