Multiple domestic flights cancelled on Day 1: Around 80 in Delhi and 9 in Bengaluru

Domestic flights resume its operations today. However, a lot of chaos is to be witnessed on day 1. Multiple flights (around 80) scheduled from Delhi to Maharashtra, West Bengal and Tamil Nadu were cancelled because of restrictions from other states. Passengers claim that these flights were cancelled without any prior notice. They got to know about it when they were scanning their boarding passes at the entrance of the airport.

At Bengaluru’s Kempegodwa International Airport, 17 flights have departed, 5 have reached and 9 were cancelled. “Today morning onwards processes have been working very well. All processes have been made contactless. We are screening all passengers. All the surfaces are being sanitised every 20-30 minutes,” says Hari Marar, Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Banglore International Airport about following the safety protocol.

After much deliberation, Maharashtra agreed for recommencement of air travel on Sunday. However, West Bengal has pushed back the recommencement to May 28 because of Cyclone Amphan. Tripura had to cancel flights connected to Kolkata as well.

Passengers and staff were seen taking the safety precautions like wearing masks or arriving early at the airport for screening.
