DGCA suspends a pilot’s licence for six months in the Spicejet turbulence case

According to sources cited by ANI, the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) suspended the pilot-in-(PIC) command’s licence for a SpiceJet flight for six months after he disregarded the co-advice pilot’s while flying a Boeing B737 from Mumbai to Durgapur on May 1 and encountered severe turbulence during descent.

During descent, a SpiceJet Boeing B737 aircraft flying flight SG-945 from Mumbai to Durgapur experienced severe turbulence, inflicting injuries on a few passengers.

The extreme turbulence incident on SpiceJet’s Mumbai-Durgapur flight that resulted in 15 injuries was then investigated by a multidisciplinary committee established by aviation regulator DGCA.

Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia said, “The turbulence encountered by a flight while landing in Durgapur, and the damage caused to the passengers is unfortunate. The DGCA has deputed a team to investigate the incident.”
