Coronavirus lockdown: “Aarogya Setu app and hand sanitizer made compulsory for all passengers,” says Airports Authority of India

The Airport Authority of India (AAI) on Friday asked travellers to mandatorily download the Aarogya Setu app, do a self-assessment check and carry a boarding pass printout before heading to airport to board a flight.

AAI is run by government and it successfully manages more than 100 airports across the nation. Airports in Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad and Bengaluru are managed by private organizations and not by AAI.

AAI ordered that the air travellers must maintain social distancing at least four feet from co-passengers. Wearing a mask, washing hands with water or alcohol based hand sanitizer frequently and carrying a bottle of hand sanitizer all the time is made compulsory.

The Bureau of Civil Aviation security (BCAS) claimed that air travellers would be permitted to carry a bottle of hand sanitizer with them on a flight.

With the possibility of resumption of domestic flights soon, AAI released a set of protocol that must be followed by passengers to ensure their safety throughout journey.

Protocols by AAI are:

  • Aarogya Setu app must be compulsorily available with every passenger.
  • Mask and hand sanitizer should be carried by every passenger.
  • Passengers are supposed to maintain distance of at least four feet from co-passengers.
  • Web-check in must be done by every passenger.
  • Carry a printout of boarding pass.

The government owned Aarogya Setu app provides color-coded designation to users according to their health status and travel history. It also ensures the user is safe by notifying them whether they are near COVID-19 infected patient or not.
