Reports indicate that this situation arose after Turkish Airlines announced on Friday the postponement of all flights to Iran. The suspension follows escalating regional tensions resulting from the killing of Ismail Haniyeh, a prominent Hamas leader, in Tehran earlier in the week.

The suspension has left many travellers in a state of uncertainty and frustration. Turkish Airlines, a major carrier operating numerous flights between Turkey and Iran, cited safety concerns and the need to reassess the security situation as reasons for the suspension. The airline announced that flights to several locations in Iran were expected to resume early Saturday, but as of late Friday, many flights remained on hold.

The killing of Ismail Haniyeh in Tehran has heightened tensions in the region, with several countries closely monitoring the situation. Haniyeh’s assassination, allegedly carried out by Israeli forces, has sparked widespread condemnation and calls for retaliation from various factions within the region. This development has prompted airlines to take precautionary measures, leading to the suspension of flights and leaving many passengers stranded.

Reza, an Iranian traveller in Istanbul, expressed his frustration over the situation. “I was supposed to return to Tehran today, but my flight was cancelled without any prior notice. Now, I don’t know when I will be able to go back home,” he said to the local media. Many other passengers echoed similar sentiments, expressing concerns over the lack of clear communication and alternative arrangements.

Turkish authorities have been working to assist stranded passengers, providing information and support at major airports.
