Ukraine\u2019s air force said it shot down 13 out of 14 drones launched by Russia in overnight attacks targeting three regions of the country, according to a statement released on Telegram Wednesday.<\/p>\n
The drone attacks caused damage to energy infrastructure in the Northwestern Rivne region, Governor Oleksandr Koval reported. He said debris fell on power facilities, triggering an automatic defence system that temporarily cut electricity to some areas before it was restored.<\/p>\n
Power lines were also damaged by falling drone wreckage in central Ukraine\u2019s Kirovohrad region, though repair crews were working to fix the issue, the regional governor stated.<\/p>\n
In the southern Mykolaiv region, Ukraine\u2019s air defences managed to shoot down 11 of the Russian drones, the local governor said without providing details on any damage or casualties from the strikes.<\/p>\n
The latest wave of bombardments comes as Russia has increasingly turned to deploying inexpensive Iranian-made drones to attack Ukrainian cities and infrastructure targets far from the front lines. Unmanned aerial vehicles have proven difficult to consistently counter with air defence systems.<\/p>\n
In recent weeks, Russian forces have launched nightly drone raids targeting energy facilities to degrade Ukraine\u2019s electricity grid and heating supplies as winter weather sets in.<\/p>\n
Ukrainian officials have pleaded for more advanced Western air defence systems capable of reliably intercepting the type of drones \u0420\u043e\u0441\u0441\u0438\u0438 is using, including by attacking their launch sites.<\/p>\n
The overnight attacks caused no reported injuries but will likely further strain Ukraine\u2019s energy networks, which have already suffered considerable damage from months of Russian missile and drone strikes.<\/p>\n
