A Russian rocket attack slammed into the village of Krasnopillia in Ukraine\u2019s Sumy Oblast on Wednesday, killing two civilians and injuring three others, regional authorities reported.<\/p>\n
According to the Sumy Oblast Military Administration, the rocket was fired from Russian territory and struck the village located just 10 kilometres (6 miles) from the border. Public buildings, including a cultural centre, were damaged in the blast.<\/p>\n
The village has been repeatedly targeted by Russian forces due to its proximity to the border. On May 12th, one civilian was killed and two more were injured when Krasnopillia came under Russian shelling.<\/p>\n
Wednesday\u2019s deadly rocket attack was part of a barrage of strikes across Sumy Oblast. The military administration reported that over the course of May 29th, Russian troops launched 81 separate attacks on 23 villages and towns within the oblast.<\/p>\n
The region has endured near-constant Russian bombardment since the invasion began in February 2022 due to its location bordering Russian territory. Hundreds of civilians have been killed or injured in the persistent shelling.<\/p>\n
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy condemned the \u201cbrutal strikes\u201d against Sumy\u2019s villages as \u201canother Russian war crime\u201d during his nightly address on Wednesday. He stated Russia was \u201cannihilating the civilian population\u201d with the indiscriminate attacks.<\/p>\n
As the war nears its 16th month, neither side has been able to gain momentum on the battlefield. Ukraine continues pleading for more advanced Western weaponry to push back the Russian offensives.<\/p>\n
