The significance of this visit lies in the delicate dance of diplomatic manoeuvring as Washington seeks to woo Cambodia away from Beijing\u2019s sphere of influence.<\/p>\n

Against the backdrop of escalating geopolitical tensions in the region, Cambodia has emerged as a key battleground for influence between the U.S. and China. Historically, Cambodia has maintained close ties with Beijing, benefiting from Chinese investments and military assistance. However, the U.S. sees an opportunity to sway Cambodia towards its orbit, bolstering its strategic position in the Indo-Pacific region. The visit by the U.S. Defense Secretary is part of a broader strategy to deepen engagement with countries in Southeast Asia, reinforcing alliances and partnerships to counter China\u2019s assertive behaviour.<\/p>\n
