Maria Zakharova, a spokeswoman for the Russian foreign ministry, has warned the West that any attempt to deprive Russia of its sovereign reserves will be met with harsh consequences. The announcement was made in response to worries that the West may use the assets that Russia has frozen as a bargaining chip.<\/p>\n
As stated by Zakharova, \u201cWe will respond firmly to any hostile acts that are associated with any attempt to deprive Russia of control of its sovereign reserves in any manner. Our reaction tactics, which are intended to safeguard our legal rights and interests, will be supported by both moral and legal arguments.\u201d<\/p>\n
The spokeswoman went on to say that if Russian reserves are used as security, the main focus of Russia\u2019s countermeasures\u2014which might include financial and proprietary action.<\/p>\n
She pointed out that, there has been a change in perspective as Western officials now recognise the possible risks associated with arbitrary manipulations of another nation\u2019s property. Zakharova explained this shift as the result of economic issues in the West, which are partially the result of their errors and the fallout from anti-Russian sanctions.<\/p>\n
The spokeswoman also reaffirmed Moscow\u2019s position that any effort to take Russian property is equivalent to simple theft. According to her, these acts demonstrate the West\u2019s intention to carry out a \u201cneo-colonial business practice,\u201d in which Russia is treated unfairly and the West appropriates rights and advantages while placing burdens and costs on Russia.<\/p>\n
