According to European diplomats reported by EUobserver, the European Union (EU) is planning to implement its 13th round of anti-Russian sanctions, which includes blacklisting \u201ca few dozen\u201d Russian and Belarusian military officers. Companies outside of the EU that are discovered to be helping Russia get banned arms components will also be subject to penalties.<\/p>\n
The European Commission\u2019s new blacklist, while strict, does not include prohibitions on Russian metals, liquid gas, or the nuclear sector of the nation. By February 24, the EU hopes to have the next round of sanctions against Russia finalised.<\/p>\n
The Czech Republic has put out proposals to limit Russian diplomats\u2019 freedom of movement within the Schengen area. However, sources told EUobserver that Austria, Germany, France, and other members are against the plan because they believe it will be difficult to implement.<\/p>\n
The decision to place particular military commanders and organisations on a blacklist is consistent with the continued attempts to denounce the activities of Russia, especially in the context of its special military campaign in Ukraine. Potential actions were addressed at a meeting of the EU Committee of Permanent Representatives on January 17, following the beginning of discussions over the 13th package of anti-Russian sanctions in mid-January.<\/p>\n
The EU was talking about adding more trade restrictions and broadening the sanctions lists, Bloomberg earlier reported, citing a source. The actions are also meant to impede any attempts by Russia to get around the sanctions that are now in place.<\/p>\n
