Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi is set to take centre stage at the prestigious World Government Summit (WGS) in Dubai as the \u201cguest of honour\u201d on February 14, marking a significant diplomatic engagement. This occasion marks Modi\u2019s second invitation to address the esteemed summit, following his first appearance in 2018.<\/span><\/p>\n

The World Government Summit is an annual global gathering that convenes world leaders, policymakers, experts, and thought leaders from diverse sectors to deliberate and address pressing global issues. Scheduled from February 12 to 14, the summit has been a fixture in Dubai since 2013, attracting participants from governments, international organizations, academia, and the private sector.<\/span><\/p>\n

This announcement follows closely on the heels of the recent participation of UAE President Mohammed bin Zayed Al Nahyan at the 10th Vibrant Gujarat Global Summit in January as the chief guest. President Al Nahyan commended the Vibrant Gujarat Summit, initiated by PM Modi, as a crucial platform for fostering economic growth and exchanging investment expertise, underscoring the collaborative spirit for mutual prosperity.<\/span><\/p>\n

President Al Nahyan\u2019s public endorsement of India and Prime Minister Modi at the Vibrant Gujarat Summit reflects the strong bilateral relations between the two nations. Previous editions of the World Government Summit have featured distinguished speakers such as Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi, Georgia PM Irakli Garibashvili, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, and leaders from the Gulf Cooperation Council, Kuwait, Indonesia, and Turkey, highlighting the summit\u2019s global significance.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prime Minister Modi\u2019s participation in the Dubai summit is part of his broader visit to the UAE, where he will also address the Ahlan Modi diaspora event in Abu Dhabi on February 13. The event, to be held at the Zayed Sports City Stadium, is anticipated to be the largest gathering of the Indian diaspora since the historic event at Madison Square Garden in 2014.<\/span><\/p>\n

Furthermore, on February 14, Prime Minister Modi will inaugurate the UAE\u2019s first traditional stone temple, the BAPS Hindu Mandir in Abu Dhabi. This Hindu temple no doubt stands as a symbol of the UAE\u2019s commitment to inclusivity and tolerance, with the land for the temple generously provided by the UAE government in 2015.<\/span><\/p>\n

The strong ties between India and the UAE are underpinned by three key pillars: energy cooperation, exemplified by significant oil trade; economic collaboration, highlighted by the Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA) and the Bilateral Investment Treaty (BIT); and the substantial Indian expatriate community, numbering 3.5 million, which contributes significantly to the socio-economic fabric of the UAE.<\/span><\/p>\n

Prime Minister Modi\u2019s forthcoming visit to the UAE marks his seventh visit since assuming office in 2014, highlighting the depth and significance of bilateral relations.
