Iran has threatened to \u201cdecisively respond\u201d to any possible U.S. attack on the Islamic Republic, issuing a severe warning in the most recent development. In the wake of Sunday\u2019s drone attack at Tower 22, a covert site in northern Jordan that is essential to US involvement in Syria, the US has made it clear that it is prepared to launch reprisal strikes throughout the Middle East.<\/span><\/p>\n

The warning was sent late on Tuesday to Iranian media by Amir Saeid Iravani, Iran\u2019s ambassador to the UN in New York. He made it clear that Iran will retaliate forcefully under any pretext against any attack on the nation, its citizens, or its interests. The possible Iranian counterattack was characterised as a \u201cstrong response,\u201d however no precise information was given.<\/span><\/p>\n

Reports had indicated that the United States and Iran were communicating either directly or through intermediaries; however, Iravani refuted these claims, claiming that no messages had been exchanged in the previous several days.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cWe are not after war, but we have no fear of war,\u201d Revolutionary Guard commander Gen. Hossein Salami said on Wednesday in reaction to the threats from the United States.<\/span><\/p>\n

Concerns have been raised for regional commercial aviation due to Iran\u2019s air defences being at the highest defensive readiness level. 2020 saw the unintentional downing of a Ukrainian passenger airliner by Iranian air defences following the death of a senior Iranian general by an American drone strike.<\/span><\/p>\n

The USS Gravely, an American destroyer, is the target of ongoing Houthi rebel strikes in the Red Sea on Tuesday night.
