The MACC chief commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki, disclosed that the agency has been granted the green light by the Attorney General’s Chambers to proceed with charges against Tun Daim. However, the legal process has hit a blockade, with the 84-year-old former finance minister currently hospitalized.

Azam Baki, the chief commissioner of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) revealed that the MACC had wanted to bring Tun Daim’s case to court since last week, following the approval from the Attorney General’s Chambers. However, the execution of this plan has been delayed due to Tun Daim’s health condition, requiring him to be in the hospital.

Despite claims by the MACC chief commissioner that they have notified Tun Daim about the impending charges, the former finance minister’s wife vehemently denied any knowledge of such communication. This discrepancy adds a layer of complexity to an already convoluted legal situation.

Azam Baki stated that his officers had communicated with the lawyers of the former finance minister to inform them of the situation. On the other hand, Tun Daim’s wife, Toh Puan Na’iman Khalid firmly denied being notified that the graft prosecutors were going to charge the former finance minister. She also asserted that Tun Daim was ready to face ‘this political charge in the hospital itself’ if necessary. The former finance minister now finds himself at the centre of a legal storm that could have significant ramifications.

The timing of the charges, coupled with Tun Daim’s hospitalization, raises questions about the broader implications and potential impact on the political landscape. Meanwhile, when questioned about this Azam remained rooted that the MACC has already informed the lawyers of Daim of the matter. The chief of MACC said, “Doctors have not been forthcoming when my officers queried.” Azam confirmed that the former finance minister would still be brought to court to face the charges. He also said that for the time being they would observe the situation. Eventually, they need to bring him to court.

Tun Daim’s wife stated that Daim had been already prepared to face any charge, anywhere and would vigorously defend himself by the law. He had been warded and was undergoing treatment, said his wife.
The next steps in the legal process will depend on the former finance minister’s health status and the ability to move forward with the planned charges. As a part of the investigation, on June 7 a notice was issued under Section 36 (1) (a) of the MACC Act and was sent to the former finance minister. The MACC also asserted that the former finance minister has applied for five extensions that were granted on July 6, August 10, September 11, October 11, and November 14 last year. A seizure notice was issued on Ilham Tower owned by the former finance minister’s family, on December 18.

The MACC chief commissioner, Tan Sri Azam Baki, disclosed that the agency has been granted the green light by the Attorney General’s Chambers to proceed with charges against Tun Daim.

[27
5557,4314,305,7726,7727
post-11659","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-malaysia","tag-anti-graft-agency","tag-macc","tag-malaysia","tag-malaysian-anti-corruption-commission","tag-tun-daim
["GET
