The attack shattered the sense of security for hundreds of Palestinians who had sought refuge in what they believed to be a safer location. Many were killed or maimed in the area they were told to evacuate to, leaving a community already displaced by conflict in deep shock and mourning.
According to the UN, from May 6 to May 25, only 143 humanitarian trucks managed to cross into Gaza through the Karem Abu Salem (Kerem Shalom) crossing. This number starkly contrasts with the average of 146 trucks per day that entered Gaza in April, highlighting the severe reduction in aid flow.
“We demand its implementation. Also the ceasefire, the release of the hostages, and humanitarian access. The suffering of Gazans and the violence must end,” Albares stated, urging immediate action to alleviate the humanitarian crisis.
The heightened military activity has been condemned by international figures, including UNRWA chief Philippe Lazzarini, who described the situation in the West Bank as a “second war.” Lazzarini highlighted the severe impact on Palestinian communities, citing increased “separation, isolation, and movement restrictions.”

The latest incident adds to a growing toll of violence in the West Bank since October 7. During this period, Israeli forces and settlers have killed at least 512 Palestinians and injured nearly 5,000, underscoring the escalating tensions and frequent clashes in the region.
Doctors Without Borders (Médecins Sans Frontières, MSF) has reported that following a strike on Gaza’s Jabalia refugee camp, 34 patients were brought to al-Awda Hospital. The hospital is struggling with severe shortages, including a lack of drinking water, which complicates the treatment and care of the incoming patients.
