Typhoon Shanshan, which formed in the western Pacific Ocean, is currently packing winds of up to 130 km/h (80 mph) and is forecasted to strengthen further as it nears Japan.
According to the Korea Meteorological Administration, the typhoon is forecast to pass over waters southwest of Jeju Island around 9 a.m. before moving northward along the western coast.
The advisories were initially triggered after a powerful earthquake struck off the coast, raising fears of a potential tsunami.
