Councilors from both major political camps have openly criticized Ko. Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) Councilor He Menghua has labeled Ko’s statements as outright lies, highlighting that the issue of Jinghua City's floor area ratio had been raised by city councilors as early as November 2021. He Menghua pointed out that Ko Wenzhe was questioned on related matters at least three years prior, making his recent claims implausible. DPP Councilor Hsu Shu-hua had also brought up similar concerns regarding floor area bonuses in 2023, further questioning Ko’s credibility.

Corruption allegations rock Taipei: Hao and Ke city governments accused of bribery

The accusations surfaced following an investigation into the Jinghua City project, a controversial urban redevelopment that has seen significant changes in its floor area ratio. Shen Qingjing, whose company Weiking Group is heavily invested in the project, is alleged to have been pressured by officials to provide bribes in exchange for favorable adjustments to the project's specifications. This has fueled widespread speculation about corruption within the city administrations.

Ke Wenzhe and the Jinghua city controversy

Jinghua City, a landmark development initially opened in 2001, was once a thriving commercial hub but faced decline and eventual demolition by 2021. The site, previously known for its spherical architecture and 24-hour shopping, is now being redeveloped by Dingyue, a subsidiary of Weiking Group, into a high-end commercial and office park called Jinghua Plaza. The new project is set to feature four 19-story buildings and is expected to be completed by 2026.
