Ukraine's State Emergency Service confirmed the strike, saying 16 high-rise buildings, two administrative buildings, and two infrastructure facilities were damaged in the attack on the town, which has come under regular bombardment from Russian troops.
According to reports from the frontlines, the multi-pronged Ukrainian defence obliterated several Russian armored vehicles, including three BTR-82 armored personnel carriers, one T-80 main battle tank, and the formidable T-90M Proryv tank – Russia's most advanced armored fighting vehicle.
The Russian military employed a variety of munitions in the onslaught, including 18 Iranian-made Shahed drones launched from occupied Crimea and Russia's Krasnodar region, as well as two Iskander-M ballistic missiles fired from near the city of Taganrog.
The barrage, which targeted energy facilities across Ukraine, involved 53 missiles of various types and 47 attack drones, the Ukrainian Air Force reported.
According to Russian defence ministry statements, their Buk-M3 and Tor-M2 surface-to-air missile batteries successfully engaged and destroyed three Turkish-made Bayraktar TB2 unmanned aerial vehicles being operated by Ukrainian forces near the cities of Bakhmut and Avdiivka over the last few days.
"There is a real threat that the hostilities could spread to new settlements," the governor warned, though he added that Ukraine's forces are so far managing to repel the Russian probing attacks.
