Wonder World takes center stage at Singapore Night Festival

Singapore Night Festival (SNF) is celebrating its 15th edition with a major expansion, now running for three weekends and featuring a new fourth festival village.

The Singapore Night Festival (SNF) is marking its 15th anniversary with a significant expansion, extending the event across three weekends and introducing a fourth festival village. This year’s festival, themed “Art Of Play,” will take place from August 23 to September 7 in the Bras Basah-Bugis district.

Festival director David Chew announced the extension to address feedback that many people only learned about the festival towards its end. The new theme invites festival-goers to explore childhood memories through a range of artistic installations and interactive experiences. A key highlight of SNF 2024 is “Wonder World – The Machine Of Nostalgia,” an amusement park created by contemporary artist Sam Lo, also known as SKL0. Located on Cathay Green, Wonder World features nostalgic game stalls, rides, and live performances. Tickets for Wonder World are priced at $25 and include 10 preloaded tokens for rides and games, with additional tokens available for purchase.

In addition to the familiar festival villages at Singapore Management University Campus Green, Chijmes, and Armenian Street, a new venue called Twilight Playground @ GR.iD will cater to young adults, remaining open until midnight for those seeking an afterparty atmosphere. SNF continues to focus on engaging audiences who may not typically visit museums, hoping to draw them in with vibrant light installations and festival activities. The event also supports emerging artists by offering training in projection mapping techniques.

Returning this year is luxury cosmetic brand Aesop, with their installation “Scents Of Being” at the National Design Centre. This bamboo-like forest invites visitors to reflect on the interplay between scent and self.
