Singapore’s Central Narcotics Bureau has announced its largest single heroin seizure of the year, with a 67-year-old man arrested on August 14 for possessing 9.5kg of the drug.

The Central Narcotics Bureau (CNB) has reported its largest single heroin seizure of 2024. On August 14, officers arrested a 67-year-old Singaporean man who was found with 9.5kg of heroin. This discovery came as part of an extensive 12-day anti-drug operation conducted from August 12 to 23, which spanned several areas including Bukit Timah, Ghim Moh, Mountbatten, and Hougang.

In addition to the heroin, the operation uncovered 2.6kg of Ice (crystal methamphetamine), 4,182 Erimin-5 tablets, 171g of methamphetamine pills, 18g of ecstasy, five bottles of methadone, and more than S$25,000 in cash. The total estimated value of the drugs seized is approximately S$1.4 million (US$1.1 million).

The comprehensive crackdown resulted in the arrest of 113 suspected drug offenders and the confiscation of a total of about 9.8kg of heroin, 3.3kg of Ice, and 620g of cannabis. Among those detained were two 15-year-old Singaporean boys. One was caught with a small amount of Ice on August 19, while the other was arrested for suspected drug trafficking. Both are students.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner Saherly Limat, the director of enforcement at CNB, emphasized the critical need to address teenage drug abuse and engage youths in drug prevention efforts. He also highlighted the essential role parents play in educating their children about the dangers of drug use.

The CNB is continuing its investigations into all suspects involved. This operation underscores the ongoing commitment to combatting drug trafficking and ensuring community safety.
