Heavy rain triggers flash flood warnings in Singapore

Heavy rain prompted flash flood warnings across over 10 areas in Singapore, as issued by PUB on Saturday. The Meteorological Service predicts continued thundery showers through November, with above-average rainfall expected.

Heavy rain on Saturday (Nov 16) led to flash flood warnings across multiple areas in Singapore, according to the national water agency PUB. An advisory was issued around 3pm, warning of heavy rainfall over the northern, eastern, and western regions of the island.

PUB identified more than ten locations at heightened risk of flash floods, including Dunearn Road between Yarwood Avenue and Binjai Park, Bukit Timah Road between Wilby Road and Blackmore Drive, and the Tampines Expressway (Punggol West Flyover). Other affected areas include Eng Kong Place, parts of the Kranji Expressway Slip Road, and various junctions around Sunset Drive and Neo Pee Teck Lane.

The warnings come amid forecasts from the Meteorological Service Singapore, which anticipates moderate to heavy thundery showers on most days until the end of November due to the northeast monsoon. The Met Service stated in a recent report that rainfall for the upcoming two weeks is expected to be “above average” for much of the island.

Residents are advised to remain alert as low daily temperatures of around 23 degrees Celsius may accompany the rains on certain days. The National Water Agency continues to monitor the weather situation, urging caution in areas prone to flooding and providing regular updates on changing conditions.
