Philippine President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. announced that the next steps in the country’s digital transformation agenda would focus on implementing an electronic visa (e-visa) system and the fortification of digital infrastructure. This strategic initiative is poised to bolster the Philippines’ position in the global digital economy, enhance public service efficiency, and improve the overall ease of business within the country.
Introducing an e-visa system marks a crucial milestone in the Philippines’ journey toward digital governance. E-visas, which are electronic versions of traditional visas, simplify the visa application process by allowing travellers to apply for and receive their visas online. This transition from paper-based to digital visas aims to streamline the entry process for international visitors, thereby boosting tourism and foreign investment.
The e-visa system will drastically lower the bureaucratic obstacles that businesses and passengers currently encounter, according to President Marcos.

It will support our e-governance initiatives and ensure that our citizens and businesses have access to reliable and secure digital services,” President Marcos explained.
