In a significant legal development, the Election Court has rendered Che Alias Hamid’s triumph in the Kemaman parliamentary seat during the 15th general election (GE15) in Terengganu null and void. This decision comes in response to an election petition presented by Wan Mohamad Hisham Wan Abdul Hamid, with lawyer Amin Othman representing the petitioner.
Amin Othman confirmed that the Election Court ruled in favor of his client, Wan Mohamad Hisham Wan Abdul Hamid, in the challenge against Che Alias’s victory in GE15. He stated, “The Election Court has decided this morning that YB Che Alias’s election as the Kemaman Member of Parliament elected during GE15 is nullified and void.”
According to Amin, the election judge, Datuk Anselm Charles Fernandis, acknowledged the petitioner’s allegations, which centered on accusations of bribery during various official events organized by the Terengganu state government. Specifically, the allegations revolved around the distribution of i-Belia and i-Siswa aid funds to voters during the GE15 campaign, with the intent of influencing votes in favor of Che Alias.
