The Health Ministry has announced the recruitment of 3,200 medical officers, 350 dental officers, and 400 pharmacy officers through contract (interim) appointments. This initiative, detailed in a Friday (July 26) statement, aims to address staffing needs while awaiting the introduction of a new permanent appointment method.
From July 18 to July 31, the Public Service Commission (SPA) is accepting applications, reflecting the government’s decision to implement contract appointments starting February 1. Qualified applicants who are not immediately recruited will be listed as reserve candidates, ready for future opportunities.
The ministry clarified that this offer is open to candidates appointed on a contract basis as per the Health Ministry’s Secretary-General Circular Number 4 of 2016. This includes both currently serving personnel and those previously serving in the ministry. Notably, medical, dental, and pharmacy officers appointed on a contract basis will be considered for permanent positions based on their performance and the recommendation of their respective department heads.
Eligible candidates encompass various categories: those currently serving in the ministry, those who have completed the maximum contract period of seven years for medical officers or five years for dental and pharmacy officers, and those whose services were not terminated due to disciplinary issues. Additionally, candidates who declined new contract extensions or permanent appointment offers and those who resigned are also eligible to apply.
To qualify, candidates must have completed their graduate training or compulsory service and hold a full registration acknowledgment. Interested and eligible candidates are encouraged to apply through the SPA9 portal , ensuring all required information is completed accurately before the advertisement closing date.
This move by the Health Ministry underscores its commitment to maintaining a robust healthcare workforce through flexible and adaptive staffing solutions. By utilizing contract appointments, the ministry aims to address immediate staffing needs while providing a pathway to permanent employment for deserving candidates.
