AirAsia has announced plans to significantly enhance its domestic travel network in Malaysia, introducing an additional 2,000 weekly flights and 150,000 seats across 40 key routes by the end of the year. This strategic expansion is designed to meet the increasing demand for travel as the year draws to a close, offering greater flight options and flexibility for both local and regional travelers.
The airline aims to connect passengers to a variety of vibrant destinations across Malaysia, thereby improving overall accessibility and affordability of air travel for Malaysians. Fareh Mazputra, AirAsia’s managing director, emphasized the airline’s commitment to serving the community. “As the people’s airline, our mission has always been to provide great value, choice, and convenient travel options. This domestic boost reflects that mission,” he stated. By December 2024, AirAsia plans to have a total of 1.7 million seats available for booking, catering to both the travel needs of Malaysians and attracting regional travelers interested in exploring Malaysia’s cultural and culinary offerings.
With this expansion, AirAsia is projected to increase its market share to 64%, reinforcing its leadership position within the Malaysian aviation sector. The airline aims to balance its market dominance with a strong commitment to maintaining high standards of customer service, ensuring that it continues to deliver exceptional experiences even as it navigates industry dynamics.
Mazputra also highlighted the significance of AirAsia’s contributions to Malaysia’s aviation landscape, particularly in establishing Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) as a prominent low-cost carrier (LCC) mega hub on the global stage. He noted, “Our growth and market leadership are not just about flying more routes but also about supporting the national economy and enhancing connectivity.”
In his remarks, he called on all stakeholders in the aviation sector to collaborate in making travel more accessible and affordable for all Malaysians, emphasizing the importance of collective efforts in the industry’s ongoing development.
