Ports Ministry receives $33 Billion proposals from Andhra Pradesh to boost port infrastructure

The Andhra Pradesh government has emphasized that the proposed infrastructure improvements will enhance the state’s competitiveness in global trade, attract foreign investment, and generate thousands of jobs.

The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways has received an ambitious proposal from the Andhra Pradesh government amounting to $33 billion, aimed at significantly enhancing the state’s port infrastructure. This move is set to transform the region into a major maritime hub, bolstering both regional and national economic growth.

The proposal, submitted earlier this week, outlines a comprehensive plan to develop and modernize key port facilities across Andhra Pradesh. The ambitious project includes the expansion of existing ports, construction of new deep-water ports, and the implementation of advanced cargo handling and logistics technologies. It also envisions significant upgrades to transportation links connecting ports to major industrial and commercial areas.

A key focus of the proposal is the development of the Visakhapatnam Port and Krishnapatnam Port, both of which are critical to the state’s economic activities. Enhancements include the creation of additional berths, improved cargo storage facilities, and modernization of cargo handling equipment. The plan also includes the development of inland waterways and logistical networks to streamline transport and reduce bottlenecks.

The Andhra Pradesh government has emphasized that the proposed infrastructure improvements will enhance the state’s competitiveness in global trade, attract foreign investment, and generate thousands of jobs. The state is positioning itself as a strategic gateway to Southeast Asia and other international markets, aiming to leverage its geographical advantage.

Additional funding and technical expertise will be sought through public-private partnerships and international collaborations. The Ministry of Ports, Shipping, and Waterways is expected to evaluate the proposal in detail, considering its potential economic impact and alignment with national maritime policies.

The initiative aligns with India’s broader vision to strengthen its port infrastructure and boost maritime trade, enhancing the country’s position in the global supply chain and driving economic development in key regions.
