Prime Minister Narendra Modi will release 109 new crop varieties tomorrow at 11 AM at the Delhi India Agricultural Research Institute (IARI). This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to advancing agricultural productivity and resilience in the face of climate change.
The released varieties encompass 61 different crops, including 34 field crops and 27 horticultural crops. Among the field crops, the new varieties include improved seeds for cereals such as millets, forage crops, oilseeds, pulses, sugarcane, cotton, and fibre crops. The horticultural segment will feature a diverse range of fruits, vegetables, plantation crops, tuber crops, spices, flowers, and medicinal plants.
The introduction of these high-yielding and biofortified varieties aims to enhance food security and nutritional quality while adapting to changing climate conditions. The event will also offer an opportunity for the Prime Minister to engage directly with farmers and scientists, discussing the impact of these new varieties on agricultural practices and rural livelihoods.
This initiative aligns with the broader goals of increasing agricultural productivity and supporting sustainable farming practices in India. The release of these crop varieties represents a crucial step toward strengthening the agricultural sector and ensuring food security in the years ahead.
